MADONNA TOUR
Pallet Party Crew
I'm a collector of experiences. The gathering of a crowd in celebration is my buzz. Music festivals, concerts, and sporting events are places you'll find me at work and play.
And it has been my absolute pleasure to have a career in which I have worked in support of the professionals whose efforts produce these very experiences that I am passionate about. I care about the fans because I am one and I work hard to allow for the organizers to put on the best show, game or event.
So much of the work is in the build up and delivery of the event. A dedicated and inspired staff, respected leadership, and an on-time and organized plan accommodates the unexpected and allows for a switcheroo to Plan B. No drama, just another day on the job.
When it’s all been delivered and the crowd takes to their feet for kick-off or when the fans begin screaming as the kabuki curtain drops, I get "job done" goosebumps. But it's really just the icing on top and our work is part of the cake; the cake being a properly thought-out and perfectly executed production plan; a result that may have involved hundreds of people working together toward the same goal. The plan will have included technical set-up; site safety compliance; local labor; engineering plans; production load in; venue specific operational policies; cost estimates and budgets; work orders; rental supply orders and stellar communication. When that all works it's a delicious piece of cake with go-time as your favorite frosting. Yum.
Let's eat more cake.
In my 15 years at Rock-it Cargo I have shipped touring equipment globally for several high profile customers including Lady Gaga, Drake, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Madonna, and Bonnie Raitt, among others.
Madonna's 2015-2016 Rebel Heart Tour required three 747 cargo aircraft to transport the concert touring equipment in and out of Europe and to 6 venues in Asia as well as New Zealand and Australia. As the on site client contact, I led the operations team responsible for the local delivery and palletization of more than 120 airfreight pallets for uplift every 3 to 5 days for more than 2 months. I served as the lead customer contact and took direction directly from the Production Manager, on site and in real time.
My first job working on a Lady Gaga production was in February of 2010. Since then I have done steady work for her personal team, management, tour management, charity organization, record label and production team. Summer 2022 we did 3 transfers of 2 x 747s for shows in Europe, N. America and Japan. December 2017 through the end of January 2018 I managed load ins and load outs under the direction of tour management in 10 U.S. and 10 European cities. In the Fall of 2012 I spent 46 days on the road as the Charter Logistics Coordinator for Lady Gaga and her A Party through 12 cities in South America, as well as Capetown and Johannesburg; Oslo, Norway; St. Petersburg and Moscow, Russia.
In my first career I was an entertainment publicist working primarily in television. I started by learning the ropes at an agency that handled all of Aaron Spelling's shows (90210, Melrose Place). Then I was in-house during the opening and first year of The Museum of Television & Radio in Beverly Hills. At Fox Family Worldwide, previously Saban Entertainment, my responsibilities varied from writing ratings releases for The Power Rangers to accompanying The All-New Captain Kangaroo to NY for media appearances.
I've also worked with professional athletes from the NBA, NHL and MLB as part of the crew within a flight operations department that handled season-long contracts with various professional sports teams. We stocked the aircraft, catered to the athletes in flight, and traveled for weeks at a time.
I have had many travel experiences that include visits to 55+ different countries and living in Italy and Ireland for 4+ years; solo travel for several months in Australia; and various trips to distant locations such as Egypt, UAE, Belize and India for weddings and diving trips.
At 17, I graduated High School and accepted a softball scholarship from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I played catcher and third base. I'm a proud Alumna and try to go back and meet up with my old friends at football games as often as I can. Go Blue!
While living in Italy, I found a local Seria B softball team. They took me on as a Straniera and paid me a small stipend for lost wages so I could travel the country playing prima base, terza base and I even spent some time on the mound as lanciatore.
Teaching English while living in Italy was an unpredictable, challenging and very rewarding experience. My clients ranged from young school children, to Business School graduate students, to the 75-year-old President/Owner of a chemical factory.
During my travels in Australia I took on temporary work as a seller of baked potatoes at various regattas, farmer's markets and local festivals around Tasmania, Australia. During my travels in Ireland I worked in a popular Italian Restaurant off of Grafton St run by local legend May Frisby. In between my travels, and during career changes, I was a server in both casual and fine-dining restaurants. You may have heard that food service is very good training in customer service for whatever future path your career may take?
Prior to moving to Ireland I began the research needed to put together a family tree tracing both my living relatives and my Irish ancestors. I can now proudly say that I have established some very close relationships with my second-cousins in Australia and several great-Aunts once removed in Ireland. I've attended weddings, baptisms and funerals in Ireland as the representative of the So. Cal branch of the Fitzpatrick Family under the Patriarchy of my recently departed 93-year-old Grandfather Thomas Kevin Fitzpatrick.
Staying organized is essential for multi-tasking. Prioritizing the work and setting up a great Plan A that can adapt in real time into Plan B, and then Plan C, if necessary.
Reviewing documents and re-confirming schedules. This can also be an area where good teamwork can serve as a functional system of checks and balances.
This is a skill that is in my nature. My second and third grade report cards can confirm this.
The gratification of having a happy customer. You know when you have hit it out of the park and it doesn't have to be said. The recognition and reward will follow.
My travels have set me up so well for working across the country and abroad. The interaction with people of various cultures has been a highlight of my life.
Whatever it takes. When I was 8-years-old I committed myself to my softball career. I missed beach days and time with my friends but at 17 my hard work had paid off with a college scholarship. Terrific lesson learned in my formative years.
